El Capitan Theater (today called the Paramount Theater)

1925 Morgan, Walls & Clements

El Capitan Theater

Originally one of the most lavish of the movie palaces built in Hollywood in the 1920's. Some of the Churrigueresque facade remains decorated with figures from literature and the stage (look for Shakespearian characters on the upper stories). Originally opened in 1926 as an English music hall, converted to motion pictures in 1942 and redubbed "The Paramount" with the premier of C.B. DeMille's "REAP THE WILD WIND".
