This is the oldest theater in Hollywood. It ha been showing filoms since 1913. The Hollywood was remodeled to it Deco exterior in the 1930's. The deco facade has panels blipping off into nothingness to the right and the marquee with its stylized Deco-rations.
The Hollywood Theater and the Pantages are the only remaining theater marquees from the deco period remaining on Hollywood Boulevard. Thus, in addition to the traditional central panel, we have here one of the earliest marquees with side panels directed at auto traffic. Flat marquees gave way to triangular ones which could be seen by passing motorists, marking the transition of Hollywood Boulevard from a pedestrian thoroughfare to a vehicular one.
