My Life As A Location Scout

Mentoring with Scott Dewers…highly noted commercial Scout

After graduating from CSUN, I was ready to embark on the uphill climb of “getting my foot in the door”. Following a tough first year out of college, I met my mentor, Scott Dewees (a highly noted, long-time commercial scout), who changed my life forever. For six months, I worked as his protege/assistant earning fifty bucks a day. With Scott, I took in as much knowledge about the job as I possibly could…and yes, I’ll admit, I even walked his dog on occasion. This crucial learning experience gave me the direction and confidence I needed to begin my own career.

In 2006, I became a member of the Teamster’s Union. This makes me, currently, one of the youngest female Teamster Location Scouts in the union.

Since then, I have had the privilege of being involved in the making of several exciting projects ranging from a number of western films (which sent me combing through every ranch in L.A. and Ventura County), to my most recent work as a Key Assistant Location Manager and Scout for ABC’s Ugly Betty.

Good Luck and remember to have Fun.

Although challenging at times, my job has continued to reward me in countless ways and everyday I am thankful for my life as a Location Scout. To all of you starting out in the business… Good Luck and remember to have Fun.
