The Orient (not there anymore)

6626-6628 Hollywood Blvd
1937 - Frank L. Stiff

The Orient is a fine example of Streamline Moderne in a storefront designed to cater to pedestrian traffic. Display windows are designed to attract the eyes of a prospectice buyer, and for this reason the street-level facades of older buildings in commercial areas are not in their original state, but the Orient has one that is.

In the 1930's when the rage was streamling and asymmetry, this entrance was remodeled to highlight its merchandise through stainless steel bands whipping past cubistic showcases. The floor design of the foyer is multi-colored terrazzo (small marble chips set in concrete and then polished).
