The First Emmys were held in 1949 in Hollywood by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences to celebrate the best in television production. The Academy is now affiliated with local and international bodies and present awards in regional and foreign ceremonies as well. The Academy also presents the Daytime Emmys to recognize excellence in daytime programming. Information on how to be a seat filler or in the bleachers can usually be found here shortly after the nominations have been announced (usually early July). If you want to attend the show, seating is available in the upper balconies for $200-400 depending on the seat. These must be purchased direct from the Academy by calling (818) 754-2800.
